Double whammy week ... coming back from a shortened Spring Break week only to get progress reports ... make that a triple - our esteemed leader is in France!!!
4/18: If you qualified to go to the state ACTE competition and have not yet completed payment and paperwork ... see Mr. Morse TODAY. This is the last day for him to register you AND, you must have your paperwork and money ($15) for him.
A Days (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday)
Honors Biology:A "potpourri" of assignments this week. During class time, we will be stepping back a few chapters to look at DNA Technology and complete a two-day ASIM (Science in Motion) lab on genetic engineering/electrophoresis. Mrs. Jennifer Hutchinson, ASIM Biology Instructor, will be in class on Wed. and Thursday to guide us through our lab. We will be working with students in Mrs. Donnelly's class to analyze our favorite junk food, Cheetos!
For homework, we are continuing our overview of plants with a packet that reviews their function and classification. There will be a substitute teacher in class each day this week.
- 4/18: Online activity on gel electrophoresis. Take notes on concepts. CW: complete worksheets on DNA Technology. HW: Plant packet - due Monday, 4/25.
- 4/20-21:DNA Genetic Engineering Lab HW: Plant packet. If absent 4/18, complete CW assignment worksheets.
Medical Tech Essentials: We are completing our last project on the History of Medicine and beginning a new assignment comparing quality of life in the US with that in other countries. Directions and resources are online (Moodle).
Modeling and Simulations: Students will complete the following this week: Technical Paper and Math Model. As a substitute will be in class each day, you will receive a separate grade for progress made during the week. Upload your paper and spreadsheet to your Moodle account BEFORE beginning work for this week.
Technical paper criteria:
- Title page: your name, class, title of paper, appropriate image
- Paper: 2 col, fully justified, 12 pt., headings: Abstract; Introduction; Problem Statement; Procedure; Conclusion; Works cited (MLA Standard)
- Insert appropriate graphs, math, images, data tables as needed to make more understandable
4/18, 20, 21: Complete all parts of technical paper - title page, paper, Works Cited. Upload as one file to Moodle when completed. Complete math model and upload. When both are finished, begin work on visualization.
B Days (Tuesday and Friday)
Multimedia: Students will finish and upload parody videos. We will begin a review of video techniques as students prepare for a longer final project video - Silent Movie.
Medical Tech Essentials: Same as A days.
Anatomy and Physiology:Turn in packets on Teen Brain (after 9 days ... it's time) and begin a brief study of the Eyes and Ears.
- 4/19: Teen Brain Test grade (turn in packet). CW: Eye Webquest - answer questions and draw/label/write down functions - parts of the eye.; Use this link for another "webquest" to help in parts of the eye functions .... perhaps a little easier to read. Eye Disorders - you will be given one of 7 disorders to research. Present on Friday. Lab: Eye Test; HW: study parts of the eye, vocab for quiz on Friday, 4/22
- 4/22: Quiz- parts of the eye/functions/vocab. Lab: Eye Dissection
