Monday, 1/24/11

Oh no ... this may be a full five days of school - our first since Christmas! Persevere is the word for the week.  For those "alphabet challenged", this is a "B" week.

A Days (Monday and Thursday)
Honors Biology: We will start the week off with a test on Cell Division before beginning our study of genetics (Chapter 9).  Can you name five characteristics that are passed on in families? How about a characteristic that may also be inherited but that can be influenced by behavior or environment? Leave as a comment!
Medical Tech Essentials: Students will complete their website on Bacteria and Viruses as well as complete a lab activity on hand-washing.  We will also set up an an experiment to test how to best protect ourselves from bacteria found in our environment. We spent several days watching a video on Typhoid Mary and will complete an online assignment reflecting on her treatment as well as the rights of the individual vs the rights of the public.  Our school nurse will talk to the class on public health issues.
Modeling and Simulations:  Students will continue working with various aspects of Flash animation as well as 3-D models and 3-D animation.
B Days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday)
Multimedia:  We are continuing our study and creation of original audio (music).  Students will create two melody loops that reflect two different genres of music.
Medical Tech Essentials:  Same as A days.
Anatomy and Physiology: Lights, camera, action - students will complete a lab dissecting a chicken wing with the emphasis on finding and identifying muscles that can be identified as a flexor or extensor.  They will take pictures to show how each contracts to produce a specific movement.
  • Tuesday:Chicken wing dissection - begin PPT. HW: PPT questions completed individually in notebook
  • Wednesday: Finish PPT. Notes: neuromuscular junction; sliding filament theory.HW: Study for quiz on notes, lab
  • Friday: You will have a quiz on the notes taken, class discussion, and the chicken wing dissection.  (Remember, notes are available on Moodle site as both ppt and pdf.) PPT presentations.
