Monday, 3/7 - Friday, 3/11

This is the last week for grades before report cards are issued on 3/14. 

A Days (Monday and Thursday)
Honors Biology:We are beginning a new unit on Ecology, the study of interactions between biotic and abiotic components of their environment
  • 3/7:  CW: Vocab, p. 363. Discuss the 5 different levels of organization, examples of abiotic factors, and explain what is meant by niche. HW: quiz on the first two sections and continue working on outside project.
  • 3/10: Quiz: sections 1-3.. CW: students will research the plants and animals in a certain state and take notes. They will use this info to complete a food web (using paper handed out in class) - HW: 1) complete packet - MC only; 2) genetics project (assigned TWO weeks ago) due Monday ; 3) food web due Monday, 3/14. Instructions below:
    • Take notes on plants and animals in your state that would make a food web.
    • ·    Real plants – not, “grass”, “plants”
    • ·    Real animals found in that state
    • ·    Four trophic levels
    • ·    Minimum of 10 plants/animals
    • Use your paper to draw out the food web. PICTURES ARE NICE!
Medical Tech Essentials:Students will complete their study of the cardiovascular system by completing a spreadsheet contrasting arteries, capillaries, and veins and giving the functions of the 4 parts of the blood. They will be tested on the first two sections of the chapter before moving on to the study of the respiratory system.

As a beginning project on the respiratory system, students will research the effects of second hand smoke and make a one minute video on the "Effects of Second Hand Smoke".  We will record on Wed and Thurs and edit on Friday.
Modeling and Simulations:  Students are working on their technical paper: Introduction; Problem Statement; and Method of Solution. The Introduction is the background information on their topic. The Problem Statement introduces the question they are attempting to solve and the variables involved. The Method of Solution explains in detail how they solved their problem (answered their question). 
B Days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday)
Multimedia:  We are still using Audacity software to edit audio.  Students will finish and upload their podcasts and complete their "Common Word" assignment in which they use at least 5 song phrases connected by a common word.
Medical Tech Essentials:  Same as A days.
Anatomy and Physiology:Student projects on how a specific pain reliever works is due on Tuesday. In addition, we will complete our study of neurons and the transmission of an impulse.
  • 3/8: Projects due. CW: Student project presentations. Test on Friday - use notes and SG pp 70 - 72 to study. Test will cover 9.1 - 9.7 (Synapses)
  • Wednesday, 3/9: Students will present their projects. 
  • Friday, 3/11: (SUB) Test on nervous system 9.1 - 9.7. CW: Study Guide 9.9 - 9.11 - HW if not completed in class.
