Starting off the week with a tornado warning wasn't the best, but the rest of the week should be really nice. This week is testing for the AHSGE (graduation exam) and most of our sophomores will be involved in that each morning.
A Days (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday)
Honors Biology:After reviewing tests on protein synthesis, we will begin a brief study of classification before beginning a unit on Ecology. Don't forget to continue your research topic - due date is Monday, 3/14.
- 2/28: Review tests and correct answers. Review vocabulary (p. 337) and discuss Linnaean system of classification. Students will research 10 common plants or animals and their scientific names.HW: Read Sec 3 and complete SR on p. 350.
- 3/2: HW check and review correct answers. Review "hierarchical" systems and examples found in every day life.HW: Read Sec. 2 and take notes on Phylogenetics and Cladistics.
- 3/3: HW check - review note-taking procedures CW: Dicotomous Key Lab CW: Read Ch. 18, Sec. 1. Complete vocabulary, p. 359
Medical Tech Essentials: We are continuing our study of the circulatory system by reviewing the chambers of the heart, the flow of blood through the heart, and the differences in arteries, veins, and capillaries. Students will complete a flash animation showing the flow of blood through the heart. In addition, we will be looking at the components of blood. Students will complete a table comparing and contrasting plasma, erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets.
Modeling and Simulations: Students are continuing to work on their modeling and simulation project by researching background information as well as the foundation of their math model. Students will be completing a technical paper that includes the following: Title Page; Abstract; Introduction; Problem; Method of Solution; Conclusion; and Appendix. The appendix will include their math model (Excel or program code), MLA citations, and any notes or drawings.
B Days (Tuesday and Friday)
Multimedia: Our introductory podcast has been completed. Students are beginning on a project that has them link together song lyrics based on a common word. The complete scoring rubric and instructions are on Moodle.
Medical Tech Essentials: Same as A days.
Anatomy and Physiology:Students are continuing to research outside of class how specific drugs are used to alleviate pain.
- 3/1: Directed note-taking 9.1 - 9.4; CW: parts of a neuron; HW: Ck recall 9.1 - 9.4
- 3/4: Discuss cell membrane potential, action potential and nerve impulses. HW: Ck recall 9.5 and 9.6. (review from class discussion) Read 9.7 and complete ck recall (new info).
